Festival Castell de Peralada
The mediaeval site of the Peralada Castle and its gardens opens its horizons to music during the months of July and August. For the last 30 years, the mythical stones of the ancient castle have been enveloped with the notes of the best music on the planet, as part of an initiative unique in the country. This festival was founded in 1987 as a result of the passion for music of its chairwoman Carmen Mateu, with the aim of supporting and disseminating the music provided by a private initiative, but with a clear public purpose.
History and prestige identify the Festival through both its artistic offerings and the exceptionality of the framework in which it takes place. The Auditorium in the gardens of Peralada Castle is a unique setting ideal for memorable summer nights.
One of the Festival’s outstanding features is its clear commitment to excellence in the artistic offerings of opera and dance. The production itself, the commitment to new creators, the backing for composers and the invitations to great artists and companies have all contributed to the cultural enrichment of the Costa Brava and the whole country.
The Festival’s faithfulness to its artistic line, with a clear commitment to dance and opera, is also evident in the line-up prepared for the celebration of its 30th anniversary. This year has seen the scheduling and production of the opera Turandot by Giacomo Puccini, a mythical, vocally-demanding work of great scenic complexity.
The embryo of the Festival which began as a passionate musical adventure of Carmen Mateu has become an established event of considerable international recognition.
